Virgin Islands Government Community  Outreach Committee April 07, 2016
Vision Synopsis:

Assist in reducing and limiting re-entry into the system. Assist with reintegration into the society.

Goals & Objectives:

Assist with rehabilitation
​
  1. To provide counsel & build relationships with outgoing inmates to prevent recidivism;
  2. To be an Advocate for the incarcerated in court;
  3. To introduce programs that will teach societal rules & regulations –
  4. E.g. respect, responsibility for actions; self-sufficiency;
  5. To introduce programs that will encourage responsibility for actions;
  6. Assist with reintegration into family and society
  7. To partner with the prison for a reintegration release program;
  8. To partner with businesses to secure jobs for first time offenders;
  9. To coordinate with VI Housing Authority to grant access to vacant property whereby illuminating homelessness;
  10. To establish partnership with EDC beneficiary to finance housing;
  11. To mandate appropriate placement into the trade school program;
  12. To encourage mentorship as a form of establishing responsibility and accountability;
  13. To focus on self as a positive contributor to society;
  14. To encourage self-sufficiency through classes.
STT/STJ Homelessness/Mental Health Committee

Vision Synopsis:

A systematic response ensuring reduction, eliminating repetition, and preventing re-occurrence of homelessness. Provision & availability of services to the mentally ill.

Goals & Objectives:
​
  1. Daily Feeding and Hygiene Program
  2. To ensure no homeless person goes to sleep hungry;
  3. To coordinate with existing organizations and programs;
  4. To work in harmony with the community;
  5. To provide access to hygienic facility (bathrooms);
  6. To assist with clothing;
  7. To assist in having access to the program;
  8. To build strong, positive relationships to encourage trust;
  9. To develop acceptable standards of service.

Access to Healthcare

To secure a convenient location;

Housing Program
  1. To secure an unused government building;
  2. Independence and self-sufficiency
  3. Assist with self-care sufficiency
  4. Assist with finding and maintaining a job;

STT/STJ – After School Program

Vision Synopsis:

Service to children in a non-threatening environment that seeks to maximize their imagination, potential, & creativity.

Goals & Objectives:
​
Assist children in improving academically via individualized and whole-group instruction
  1. To encourage parents to collect/bring in report cards;
  2. To teach the value of pride
  3. Impart a respect for culture and the cultural norm that will seek to act as a transition from one generation to the other.
  4. Through lectures, performances, story-telling;
  5. Encourage physical, mental, and social health through extra-curricular activities.
  6. To teach self-discipline and build character;
  7. To encourage endurance through hiking, cycling, & swimming;
  8. To encourage self-sustenance through principles oh Home Economics;
  9. To encourage expression through arts and crafts.
  10. Enhance talents through inclusion of arts and the performing arts.
  11. To teach/learn the cultural dances, steel pan, and music;
  12. To encourage expression through, art, and dance.
  13. Encourage parental involvement in social & educational learning experiences.
  14. To utilize pillars of character for character development;
  15. To work with the revival of Parent University;
  16. To include ScreamFree Parenting into the After School Program.
